What's it all about?
Although this interview included plenty of interactive dialogue, my recording failed to capture my voice, and so it's been converted into a monologue of sorts, wherein Lee Lefever discusses the origins of Common Craft paper craft videos; the crafting of effective explanations; where ideas come from; how almost anyone can create content with a message.

* The audio channels mucked up a bit with the left channel disappearing at times, but the messages Lee shares are very pertinent to classrooms of today.

How and when will meaningful change come to education... and what will it look like?  You can help out by contributing to the 21st Century Skills pages on http://thecleversheep.wetpaint.com

My contention is that teachers have to use the technologies to gain an understanding of their operation, and then they need to model the use of such tools in their personal learning. It is after this experience, that the employment of Web 2.0 tools in the classroom will make sense!

Did the Stone age end when we ran out of stone?
Maybe not, but in looking at the pace of change in our education system,  we may need to ban chalk!

Think about it, each of 'The Three Ages' (Stone Age; the Bronze Age; the Iron age) were each represented by materials.

In education, our history in tools:

The Slate and Chalk Age (mid 1800's - present)
The Paper and Pen Era (1900's to present)
and the Internet and Keyboard Period (2000's to present)

But we're still tied to both chalk/chalkboards; and paper/pen as tools! School 2.0 may one day arrive, harnessing the power of global networking with today's multimedia tools... But we may first have to "Ban Chalk!"  in order to get educators to use the tools of the present!
